Freeses Pond Home friends and neighbors
This site is very raw, right now. I do not expect it to ever get done but I
do hope someday to take the crude edge off enough so it is at least less
distracting.
This site was inspired when I first moved to the banks of Freeses Pond.
In anticipation of moving to the area, I was disappointed there was not more
information online. After moving here, I discovered life on this pond is
infectious and its history is rich with characters whose experiences have
been recounted anecdotally. I thought it would be really cool if someone
built a website to collect and share such stories for all eternity. After
waiting a year and nobody had built such a site, I grew impatient and
decided to try to build it myself. Unfortunately, my short term memory is
getting as bad as my long term memory so the stories I repeat are often
lacking in detail and accuracy. Such are the fun of rumors. For this reason,
I have also put up a forum so people can recount their own rumors, correct
any blatant lies I tell, and generally have a fine time writing and
re-writing local history. If nobody shows up then I will appoint myself the
local historian and my word will be undisputed. That is a scary thought.
For those who came here looking for substance: I
have not met Don but I am told he is the guy that I used to see fishing from his boat
every evening. Apparently, in 2000 he was doing more than fishing and made notes on
the local vegetation densities and stuff like that. Among the copies he made he gave one to Pat
who loaned it to me who snagged it long enough to scan it to upload to post and share with
the world in a surprisingly audacious manner. I hope Don does not mind. The file is in PDF format.
Right click RIGHT HERE and select "save as" then pick someplace you can find again, like your desktop. If you have trouble downloading
it and happen to live on the pond, give me a yell and I will paddle over and give you
a hand, or maybe give you a copy but that would be too easy.
Stay tuned, I will start amassing and manufacturing the local history in the near future.
